Travelling Miles (1999) is the only one of Cassandra Wilson’s albums I’ve known well and had part of my life properly (“Right Here, Right Now” in particular). Her NYT obituary has me working through the rest of the catalogue, as does this quote: ““We live very segmented lives […] There’s Black music and there’s white music. There’s R&B and funk and whatever. This has always bothered me. People don’t see things in streams, they don’t see what tends to connect us all together. That’s what I see. That’s what I try to get at.” We need more handshakes, as Hone Tuwhare put it, in every cultural direction.
