Nate Wooley’s tribute to Sonny Rollins at n+1 reminded me I’d never listened to anything more than Way Out West, and, to fix that gap, I’ve been listening to The Cutting Edge, a live album of Rollins at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1974. And that (in the closing track, “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”), took me to Rufus Harley, the only jazz bagpipe player I think I’ve ever heard. Glory be.
